| I have always loved candles, ever since a child sitting in the Christmas service
singing by candlelight, for their gentle light and calming effect. However, due to their hazardous nature
it was not possible to collect many candles so I turned to lamps. I do have a small collection of candles,
pictures can be found here. |
| Novelty Lamps are my main love as they provide a less harsh environment than modern
bulbs. I have a number in my collection which can be viewed here. My
first lamp was an optic fibre lamp which has a wave of colour pass over it regularly, followed by two lava
lamps, a bubble tube, a projector and a crackle tube. My most recent addition is a plasma tube which
responds to sound as well as touch. Each of these lamps are unique and provide a different kind of relaxation.
About this time I also purchased a water fountain providing the gentle sound of running water to my world. |
| Since these lamps need the national grid to run them all at once I moved on to water
toys which can be viewed here. Each of the water toys involves some movement of
liquid or sand in a rhythmic motion. They are very hypnotic and tend to distract rather than relax. My
favourite is the Bubble tube which consists of air bubbling through oil. This was given to me by a close
friend. |
