Kyre’s Website was the first website I ever developed. The layout is basic and the content scarce. This is a guide to how the Website was written in separate stages.

Stage 1 : My First Page

The first stage was to learn my first few words of HTML and thus a basic first page. This page is no longer on the Website but can be reached at firstpage.html.

Thus I had learnt the basic layout of a webpage with a few extra tags. These tags included <IMG SRC=" ">, <HR> and <P> as well as extending the body tag to include a background GIF file.

Stage 2 : Developing the Website

The second stage was to research other webpages on the web for ideas for my own website. As I discovered more HTML I added to my original first page. This made my page to long to be practical.

At this stage I found that structuring the Website would be a more beneficial approach to the problem although I was still unsure of content.

Stage 3 : Structuring the Website

This stage was the start of the planning and structuring of the Website. I surmised that numerous pages would be required to hold the content I could add.

I decided the front page should be a simple welcome screen with a picture. The second page should be a contents list with a small introductory message.

Basic Plan:

index.html

\/

main.html

\/

About Me Air Earth Fire Water

Air – The Links That I Like To Fly To
Earth – Practical Down-To-Earth Links
Fire – Links You Are Burning To Visit
Water – Email Addresses I Have Floating About

I came to the conclusion that something in the above format would be the simplest to increment. The Elements seemed a nice way to be original and divide up the content into sections.

Thus I could expand my basic plan to a higher degree:

Kyre’s Website – Index Of Files

index.html Welcome Page
main.html Homepage
info.html About Me
fact.html Factfile (Quick View)
air.html The Links That I Like To Fly To
earth.html Practical Down-To-Earth Links
fire.html Links You Are Burning To Visit
water.html Email Addresses I Have Floating About

Possible Files

tettnang.html Tettnang Exchange
tettinfo.html Information On Tettnang
friedinfo.html Information On Friedrichshafen
konstinfo.html Information On Konstanz

Stage 4 : Originality

It struck me that I wanted visitors to my webpage so it had to be different to other pages.

I decided that there had to be a theme throughout so I placed a banner across the top (Kyre’s Website!!!) and an email icon at the base of each page.

Due to my love of vibrant colours, the backgrounds to the site are outrageously bright and often interfered with the writing. Some examples are below:

coffee.gif (9875 bytes)

airbg.jpg (4835 bytes)

paper1bg.jpg (2925 bytes)

fire1bg.gif (7550 bytes)

water1bg.gif (15219 bytes)

green1bg.jpg (5820 bytes)

The backgrounds were also an attempt at originality.

Stage 5 : Improvements

It was at this stage of webpage development that I started to work in writing HTML for work experience.

At my colleagues’ advice I toned down some of my backgrounds to a more "eye-friendly" interface. I also started to write a background colours section, frames section and no frames section.

At this point a welcome section was implemented to explain what the basic sections were and provide a contents list. The background colours section was the same as the backgrounds section, which was the original section, without the bright GIFs. The Frames and No Frames sections were to use a button bar and image maps respectively for navigation.

Due to constant use of images I developed a Picture File consisting of images displayed with their titles ready to download. This made images easier to retrieve.

I still considered this site to be "scruffy" so I started to write a new website called Kyre’s Place!!!

Stage 6 : Alterations

Kyre’s Website became a part of Kyre’s Place and has consequently been moved to a more central location on the web.

Much of the code has been updated for correct format and structuring. The Picture File has been updated to a newer version called Picture Source which uses frames for navigation and tables for display.

All the unfinished sections of the site such as the Frames or No Frames areas have been completed to a sufficient degree and all dead links removed.

Kyre’s Website!!! is now referred to as the old website and I consider it to be childish and clumsy. For a description of how Kyre’s Place!!! developed visit the section History Of Kyre's Place.
